When buying jewelry, especially necklace, we tend not to focus our attention on the type of clasps that comes together with our necklace that we are going to buy. After we have bought the jewelry only then we realize that there is something “missing” on the necklace that we have bought.
There are some options that we have to consider before we purchase our necklace. Look for the clever clasps, especially the clever magnetic clasps (as shown on TV ads), that shall be fitted to the necklace. The properties of the available clasps in the market are as follows;
1. Magnetic Clasps
The clasp has two sides with one side of the positive charge and the other side with the negative charge. These clever magnetic clasps will snap together quickly when the two ends are placed near each other easily, although some people may experience some difficulty for the first time using it. But the ease of fitting the magnetic clasps will become accustom to it as time goes by. Clasps are available in Silver or Gold and it is easy to attach to any necklace, bracelet or other chain loop.
2. Spring Rings Clasps
It has a spring inside the loop; we have to push backwards on a little lever that slides along a circular ring and then insert the chain or loop into the open circle and release the lever to close it. The spring rings clasps are easy to handle.
3. Box Clasps
Box clasps are two-piece clasps that open when you push down on the exterior lever of a wedge-shaped piece of metal, and you have to push it back in into place and it is easy to use. It can be plain or decorative and can be found in a variety of shapes and sizes. The other type of box clasp has a safety guard that will flips into place to add extra security to the box clasp.
4. Lobster Claw Clasps
It looks like a lobster claw, but you can choose various types that can be fitted as fashion which will suit to any jewelry. It has a tiny spring in its mechanism that keeps the arm closed until you push on the lever. Because of its ease to secure that make it a popular for bracelets, necklaces and anklets. Further it is easier to open and close by yourself without getting from other people.
5. Toggle Clasps
Toggle clasps are two-piece clasps that are formed into a circle or other shape with an open center and the other half is a thick bar that attaches to the other end. Toggle clasps are widely used to secure bracelets and anklets, and they are available in numerous sizes and designs. They are not as secure as clasps that have a lock-type closure.
6. Hidden Clasps
Hidden clasps can become part of the jewelry and it seem to disappear when latched; allowing gems and other jewelry components flow uninterrupted around the piece. The latch provides additional security to the jewelry.
7. Decorative Clasps
The shape of the clasps plays a major role in jewelry design, like the heart clasp, since it becomes part of the jewelry.
Before choosing the type of clasp that fit with your desire, put on a few necklaces and bracelets to see how easily you can open and close them by yourself. Determine how secure the clasps are before you make a lifetime decision. You have to pay more attention to clasps that will be a contribution to jewelry design and functionality.
